Norwegian high-tech travels to Asia in Savopak packages

The growth of China´s shipbuilding industry can be seen in Savopak

Tailored packaging solutions for demanding global transportation purposes are being manufactured in Savopak´s modern factories in Finland. The cooperation with Norwegians reaches as far as China and Korea.

The group of Norwegian experts visited OR group and Savopak Oy in the end of the August 2011. Eric Abrahamsen of Intertrade Consult AS has been a Savopak´s business partner in Norway for five years.

“Five years ago I was planning to start own packaging production in Norway but luckily I learned of Savopak,”explains Abrahamsen.

Intertrade Consult AS has specialized in selling demanding packaging solutions for his customers in Norway. "Cooperation with Savopak means to my company flexible product development, on time deliveries and excellent product quality. We came here to excursion. We want to see where and how Savopak packages are manufactured,” says Abrahamsen.

At the moment one-fifth of the packaging products that Intertrade Consult AS is selling are Savopak packages.

One of the biggest customer of Intertrade Consultant counts among Kongsberg Maritime.
A market leader in its field, Kongsberg Maritime delivers globally to shipyards monitoring and navigation equipment. These high-tech products are used in ships, vessels and harbors.

For the shipyard industry Kongsberg Maritime manufactures stabilization devices that are being used with assistance of satellites. Company has also developed high technology equipment for marine research purposes by which e.g. in a rescue situation humans can be searched from the ocean.

“All the biggest shipyards in the world have already our products. At the moment 98% of our products go to Asia. The growth potential of the business is there. We already have factories in China and Korea,” says Department director of Kongsberg Maritime Finn Arne Kristiansen.

Our second factory in China just opened in August 2011. “We want to be close to our customers and in the middle of the growing market. When we operate locally the cultural differences doesn´t affect the business negatively.”

Kongsberg Maritime is part of the Kongsberg group that develops solutions for oil and gas industry as well as defense forces and space industry. The Kongsberg group employ over 6100 persons in 25 countries. The headquarters is situated in Kongsberg, Norway.
Outsourced packing functions well 

The visit to Finland participated also third cooperating company Berg Emballasje whose managing director Ove Berg did a long career in Kongsberg Maritime´s package department. “I was working in Kongsberg Maritime´s package department for 15 years. We were manufacturing e.g. plywood boxes in the package department. As an entrepreneur I started in 1988,” he says.

One-man company has grown, it employs nowadays 22 persons and they take care of the packing issues of Kongsberg Maritime entirely.

“Berg Emballasje has several customers in a field of ship and boat business, Kongsberg Maritime is the biggest customer of those.”

Berg Emballasje have a storage space of 2.500 m2 where the packages of Kongsberg Maritime are also being stored. The Savopak plywood boxes are delivered to Berg Emballasje and forwarded to Kongsberg Maritime when necessary.
